BEYOND THE TOLLBOOTH,
A Ballet For Everyone!
When bored Milo discovers a magical tollbooth in his room, he zooms off on a surprising adventure to the Lands Beyond! With Tock, a protective watchdog, and Humbug, an opportunistic bug at his side, Milo explores a world where words and numbers dance, Rhyme and Reason are missing, and imagination rules. Based on The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster and supported by a cultural arts grant from the City of East Lansing Arts Commission, this all-original ballet, told through narration, physical theatre and dance, is a joyful reminder that life gets exciting when you choose to look closely. February 21 and 22 at 2pm at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center Auditorium, 819 Abbot Rd. in East Lansing. The grant is part of the City's ongoing efforts to support local public art and enhance community engagement through the arts. Tickets:https://thestudiopac.ticketspice.com/tollbooth-ballet

Companies
THE DANCE COMPANY
The Dance Company is open to any dance student that has taken at least three years of ballet, and wants more performance opportunities.
The Company performs several times a year with an Original Storybook Ballet/Dance Production (a full theatrical production), as well as performances for charities such as the Make A Wish Foundation, Junior Achievement, Festival of Trees and area Senior Assisted Living/Nursing Centers.
The time commitment is approximately 1 extra hour per week for the mini company, 1-2 hours a week for the junior company and 1-3 hours a week for the advanced/senior dancers, with the first performance being a holiday performance scheduled in mid-December. There is an audition in late August/early September for placement only.
The technical and personal growth the dancers experience during their time in the company is a key component of their success in dancing, and the friendships and support gained from each other across all ages and levels is unique. Solos and parts are at the discretion of the Director as it relates the show being created. Each show is unique and original.
The cost to participate in the company is $600 per year, which can be payable in scheduled payments. Parents are an important component of the company's success: they assist in putting together their student's costumes under guidance from a costumer (either physically by sewing it, or monetarily by buying it), help with any props needed or set pieces to be made, help supply and run the snack table fundraiser before, during and after shows, sell at least 10 tickets per student for the production (which helps pay the cost of renting the theatre), as well as help out with any other company needs.
THE ACTING COMPANY
The Acting Company is open to any acting or musical theatre student and is taken directly from participation in the class(es). Acting and Musical Theatre students will participate in 1-2 “Family and Friends Nights” at The Studio where they will put on scenes with partners, act in a play (full production in a black box/intimate theatre) as well as possible musical theatre shows in the future, depending upon singing abilities to carry a musical show through to production.
There is little outside rehearsal (from class time) until close to the show, when the last few weekends may require extra rehearsal time. Auditions for roles are held during class time in both the fall and the spring, which allows the students to see how auditions are run and work on their audition technique.
Plays are chosen based on challenge for the students in age-appropriate material, and great effort is made to ensure equal status among all the roles for technique development. Students are expected to learn their lines and blocking early in the rehearsal process so they can be directed.
Cost to participate in the play(s) is based upon the amount of people in the show; usual costs hover between $200-$300 to participate but a definite amount will be announced before the show auditions begin. This fee helps afford an auditorium rental. Students/parents are expected to help supply or pay for the costume and help with any props or set pieces to be found or made. Parents and family members are also expected to help supply and run the snack table fundraiser before, during and after shows, as well as sell tickets for the play (which helps to pay for the cost of renting the theatre). Renting an already existing studio costume (if available) is $25 per costume, and is expected to be returned clean and ironed after the run of the show.
