Classical Ballet

Pre-Ballet Ages
3 ½ – 6  Years 

Wednesdays: 10:30 – 11:15 am

Saturdays: 10:30 – 11:15 am  

 

Ballet principles are introduced in a gentle and age-appropriate way.  Barre work includes beginning basics such as 1st through 3rd foot positions, plies and tendus.  Floor work includes  stretches, tendu, port de bras, ronde de jambe, and other simple beginning steps, as well as small and large jetes (jumps) and leaps.

Ballet IV-V
Ages 9-12 Years

Wednesdays: 4:30 – 5:15 pm

For the dancer that has had a few years prior of ballet training; instruction builds upon the curriculum already set in Ballet I/II and III/IV.  Leaps, jumps, turns and correct placement is emphasized, along with the adagio, allegro and furthering correct placement, balance and posture positioning.  Spatial skills are emphasized along with longer and enhanced combinations, requiring more ballet technique knowledge and continuing development.

Boy's Ballet

Mondays: 5:15-6 pm

Ballet technique with a focus exclusively for the young male ballet dancer. Taught by a male dancer, Boy's jumps and physical prowess are emphasized through rigorous strength-building exercises.

Pointe / Pre Pointe Class

Wednesdays:  5:30 - 6:30 pm

Pointe Class For Intermediate/Advanced levels from pre-pointe to pointe, this class is intended to strengthen ankles, arches, feet, posture, placement and technique through warmups, combinations and intense training. If you are a pointe dancer (or plan to be) this class is for you!

Jazz

 Jazz I/II
Ages 7-10 Years

Tuesdays: 5:15 – 6 pm

Jazz I/II is an introduction into jazz dance using age-appropriate steps and skills. Jazz encompasses the principles of contemporary jazz in a fun, age-appropriate way using basic rhythm training and rhythmic patterns along with very current stylistic trends in both free flow and syncopated movements.  Jazz dance is a nice compliment to the study of ballet technique as it emphasizes different stretches, flexibility and toning as well as a different style of dance.  In order to achieve proper technique, strength and flexiblity a ballet class taken concurrently is strongly recommended.

Senior Jazz/Lyrical
Ages 14 +

Thursdays: 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Senior Jazz class is an Athletic form of Jazz dance, combining athletic physicality with modern free flowing movements. The movements inherent in Jazz Dance help to shape dancers with unique, free-flowing expressive movements along with movements incorporating strong, sudden changes in direction or height and powerful athletic sustained movements. Jazz Dance requires expression from the dancer coupled with athleticism (physicality) and develops different muscles which are additional to those formed in Ballet.  Please note that classes in Ballet are strongly recommended in conjunction with Jazz in order to create the grace needed for excellent dancing and a well-rounded dancer. Classes in Jazz Dance focus equally on powerful athleticism, musicality, extension and core.

Contemporary

Senior Contemporary Dance Ages 14+

Tuesdays: 8:15 – 9 pm

Contemporary dance class is for Intermediate level and above.  Contemporary emphasizes core strength, flexibility, stretching and expressive as well as dramatic movement. Contemporary is a melting pot of different dance styles and encompasses elements from ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern and hip hop to create a collage of movements and emotions in a unique and original way.  A great compliment to the study of ballet.

Tap IV-V 
Ages 11-14

Class not currently running

Tap Dance for 11-14 years is a fun, athletic form of dance. Tap emphasizes rhythm and timing, which can be used to aid other styles of dance such as jazz, hip hop and ballet.  It also builds strength in the legs, improves coordination, and enhances cognitive abilities, similar to playing piano using both hands.  Tap is a great way for young dancers to learn to better control their bodies, and for older dancers to increase endurance.  Like other dance forms, it requires strong spatial skills, balance, memory recall, muscle control, aerobic fitness and is fun!

Ballet I-II
Ages 6-8 Years

Mondays: 4:30 – 5:15 pm 

Beginning Ballet for ages 6-8 years (or Kindergarten through 2nd grade).  Basic ballet positions, port de bras, ronde de jambe, the five arm positions, bourres, skips, leaps, marches, ballet walks, shasse, jete, glissade, grande jete, rhythm, musicality and ballet progressions as well as proper alignment are emphasized in this class.

Tuesdays: 6-7 pm &

 Thursdays: 5:30-6:30 pm

The Junior Ballet is an intermediate level of pre-pointe or pointe students, as well as boys, aged 10-14.  For the more earnest dancer, this class meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and, although not required, most are members of the Dance Company.  Ballet Technique is taught using the Russian approach; a more enhanced barre, floor stretches and center work are emphasized.  As always, special attention is paid to knee, hip and ankle placement in response to growth plates and maturation.  Must have a least three years of ballet training and/or meet with instructor approval.

Adult Intermediate Ballet (Ageless)

Mondays: 6:45 – 8 pm

For those adults that have danced ballet in the past, a full ballet class with barre, center floor, adagio, allegro, petit allegro movements.  Focus is on fun and having the complete workout a ballet class gives, maintaining healthy bone structure, postural alignment, learning graceful steps and toning muscles with a group of very accepting and enjoable people!

For those adults that want a very rigorous workout, a full ballet class with barre, center floor, adagio, allegro and petit allegro movements.  Focus is on fun and having the complete workout a ballet class gives, maintaining healthy bone structure, postural alignment, learning graceful steps and toning muscles with a group of very accepting and enjoyable people!

Lyrical

Junior Lyrical Dance

Mondays: 5:45 – 6:30 pm

Lyrical Dance class combines Lyrical technique (Ballet and Modern) creating dancers with unique, free-flowing expressive movements, utilizing spatial designs and continuous movements with strong, sudden changes in direction or height (Lyrical Dance style). Lyrical Dance uses highly emotional music and powerful songs that require expressivity (emotion) from the dancer coupled with athleticism (physicality).  Classes in Lyrical Dance combine elements of Ballet and Modern with movements interpreting expressive songs in an emotionally charged way.

Tap

Tap I-II 
Ages 6-8

Fridays:  4:00 – 4:30 pm​

Beginning Tap class for ages 6-8 years.  A fast-paced form of dance that uses rhythm and syncopation to express emotions, Tap emphasizes spatial skills, left-right brain, balance, memory recall, muscle control and aerobic fitness.  This class will help to develop motor skills and pattern awareness; beginning tap dance vocabulary is also emphasized.

Adult 
Beginning Tap

Wednesdays: 7:30 – 8:15 pm​

No previous training necessary! Beginning Tap is a class to get you on your feet and moving! Have a blast with other Beginners in a fun, fast-paced atmosphere utilizing your spatial skills and left/right brain capabilities. Tap is a rhythmic, very enjoyable art form that is both aerobic and mentally challenging with steps turned into combinations turned into dances.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop 
Ages 9-18

Fridays: 5:30 – 6:15 pm

Hip Hop incorporates basic rhythm training and rhythm patterns in this very current form of street dance.  Locking, tutting and popping is explored, as well as the latest moves.  Later in the year, students will explore freeing inhibitions with end-of-class improvisational dance and “dance battles”. No previous dance experience required!

Ballet III-IV
Ages 7-9  Years

Tuesdays: 4:30 – 5:15 pm

For those that were in Ballet I-II for several years; attended Dance Camp or summer classes and are ready for more challenge/or had two years or more of Ballet and have mastered basic steps/positions of ballet and able to complete a (simple) dance combination of four or more different steps.  This class continues training in the Bolshoi method with further technique building upon previous experience, focusing on balance, strength and flexibility with steps such as pas de chats, glissades, bourres, jetes and more.  This class is the next step in the fundamentals of ballet with more advanced movements and exercises such as ronde de jambe en l’air, degage and petit battement.

Senior Advanced Ballet Ages 14+

Tuesdays: 7 -8:15 pm &

Thursdays: 6:30 -8:00 pm

For ages 14 and up, the Advanced Ballet class is a workout for the experienced dancer.  This class meets twice a week and includes pointe and pre-pointe levels.  Technique class based on the Russian Bolshoi ballet technique along with French terminology.  Students complete a full barre, core/stretching, center work including adagio, petit allegro, large and small motor movements including balance, glissade, port de bras, jete, pirouette, grand jete, fouette, brisee, enchainments, echappe, entrechechat and so much more.  The Bolshoi method produces technically strong dancers that are highly athletic.

Adult Beginning Ballet with
Barre Stretch

Wednesdays 6:30 - 8:00pm

Ballet class for those that want to simply get a great work out; ballet uses both large and small muscle groups at the same time incorporating spatial skills and engaging brain function, so it’s always a challenge and never boring!  After a long day at work, studying or caring for kids (or anything else you do), stretch your muscles, align your spine, perfect your balance, feel better and stand taller after!

Ballet Bootcamp Intermediate/Advanced levels

For those intermediate to advanced dancers that want a rigorous workout, Ballet Bootcamp combines a full ballet class with barre, center floor, adagio, allegro, petit allegro movements as well as pointe exercises, floor stretches and more.  Fast-paced and run like a ballet class for professional dancers, Bootcamp is a complete workout that a quality ballet class gives, along with demanding choreography. Maintaining healthy bone structure, postural alignment, learning graceful steps and toning muscles with a group of other hard-working students who want to excel at their art form is the ultimate goal of this rigorous class!

Junior Jazz 
Ages 10-14 Years

Thursdays: 4:30 – 5:15 pm

Junior Jazz dance class for ages 10-14 years encompasses the principles of contemporary jazz in a fun, age-appropriate way.  Jazz is a focused class emphasizing leaps, turns and basic jazz technique with large and small muscle groups. Set to rhythmic and fun music, core stretches and floor barre are emphasized, as well as the correlation between developing smoothness between different moves through combination work. Jazz dance is a nice compliment to ballet technique as it emphasizes different stretches, flexibility, and toning as well as introducing a different style of dance.  In order to achieve proper technique, strength and flexibility, a ballet class taken concurrently is strongly recommended.

Adult Lyrical Dance 18+

Tuesdays: 8:15 – 9:15 pm

For those Adults and older teens that want to work in a Lyrical/Contemporary form, Adult Lyrical Dance will incorporate softer and slower movements than the Senior Contemporary Dance and focus utilizing spatial designs with strong but smoother changes in direction or height.  This form of dance uses highly emotional music and powerful songs that require more expressivity from the dancer. Classes in Contemporary Dance focus equally on physicality and emotion.

This Tap class is for the older teen or adult that wants an aerobic workout and rhythmic fun!  A fast-paced form of dance that uses rhythm and syncopation to express emotions, Tap emphasizes spatial skills, left-right brain thinking, balance, memory recall, muscle control and aerobic fitness.  Especially geared for the working adult or older teen that wants to master new skills, this class works on motor dexterity and pattern awareness.
