
Jazz
Jazz I/II, Ages 6-8
Jazz I/II introduces students to the foundations of jazz dance through age-appropriate steps, skills, and choreography. Students explore rhythm, musicality, coordination, and style while learning the principles of contemporary jazz in a fun and energetic environment.
Classwork incorporates basic jazz technique, rhythmic patterns, isolations, flexibility, strength, and dynamic movement qualities, including both free-flowing and syncopated styles. Through progressive exercises and choreography, students develop confidence, performance quality, and an understanding of jazz as its own unique form of expression.
Jazz dance complements the study of ballet by developing different movement qualities, strength, flexibility, and stylistic versatility. To support proper technique and continued growth, concurrent ballet training is strongly encouraged.
DRESS CODE: Leotard with tan dance tights and tan slip on jazz shoes. Hair secured back in bun or a ponytail.
Jazz III/IV
Jazz III/IV continues the study of jazz dance through age-appropriate technique, movement, and style.
Rooted in contemporary jazz, classes develop rhythm, coordination, musicality, flexibility, and dynamic performance skills through energetic combinations that explore both fluid movement and syncopated rhythms. Students are introduced to current jazz styles while building a strong technical foundation in a fun, challenging, and supportive environment.
Jazz is an excellent complement to ballet training, developing strength, flexibility, coordination, and versatility while encouraging individual style and expressive performance. To achieve proper technique and continue developing the strength and alignment essential to jazz, concurrent enrollment in a ballet class is strongly recommended.

Junior Jazz, Ages 10-14
Junior Jazz continues the study of jazz dance with a focus on developing stronger technique, musicality, coordination, flexibility, and performance skills.
Rooted in contemporary jazz, classes explore energetic combinations, fluid movement, syncopated rhythms, and dynamic changes in style and direction. Students are introduced to a variety of jazz styles and current movement while continuing to build strength, control, and technical precision in a fun and challenging environment.
Jazz is an excellent complement to ballet training, developing strength, flexibility, coordination, and versatility while giving dancers the opportunity to explore individual style and expressive performance. Concurrent enrollment in a ballet class is strongly recommended, as ballet training provides the alignment, strength, and technical foundation that support continued development in jazz.
DRESS CODE: Any color leotard, dancewear or athletic wear; hair tied back in a ponytail or a bun. Tan or
skin -tone colored dance tights. Beige/Tan slip on Jazz shoes w/ rubberized soles.

Senior Jazz, Ages 14+
Senior Jazz is an athletic and energetic form of jazz dance that combines strength, precision, flexibility, and dynamic movement. Classes focus on developing strong jazz technique through energetic combinations, sharp changes in direction and level, powerful movement, and controlled extension.
Students work on musicality, rhythm, core strength, flexibility, and coordination while developing the strength and stamina needed for more demanding jazz movement. Jazz also incorporates movement qualities and muscle groups that complement ballet, giving dancers a broader range of physical skills and movement vocabulary.
As dancers progress, they develop greater technical control, performance quality, and individual style while working with increasingly challenging choreography.
Concurrent enrollment in ballet is strongly recommended, as ballet develops the alignment, strength, control, and placement that support strong jazz technique and well-rounded dance training.
DRESS CODE: Any color leotard, dancewear; hair pulled back into a bun. Beige/Tan leather slip on or lace up jazz shoes.
